“No one can do everything, but everyone can do something”– unknown
All parents and carers are automatically part of the PTA (Friends of St Joseph’s). We are a group of busy parents, with still more to give! Being part of the Friends of St Joseph’s is a rewarding way to meet other parents and to help the school in providing more for our children.
Since summer 2018, we have organised events such as the Summer Plants Sale, Sports Day Raffle, Autumn Disco, 100 Club and Christmas Fair. Funds raised from our events have helped our school pay for Year 6 leavers’ hoodies and a new portable cooker for use in classrooms. We are currently looking into purchasing some picnic/games tables for the children’s play area; something requested by our School Council. Other items on our list are such as a trophy display cabinet to keep safe and showcase the children’s achievement in sports and benches for our school garden.
As parents ourselves, we are deeply aware that raising children aren’t cheap! Therefore, we aim to organise events which will allow funds to be donated from outside of school. Our committee members are also trying to register for charity status within the year as it will enable us to receive gift aids and allow us to apply for various grants.
Friends is not all about fundraising. We have recently made a start in helping our school with the upkeep of its garden. We are in discussion with Mrs McNamara about making the garden a useful learning and recreational area for our children.
The more we can do, the more we can support the school with better, new equipment and activities. If you are interested in helping us, please speak to one of the committee and come along to our meetings, many hands make light work – we would love to see you there!
